For the first time ever, Ethiopia developed and rolled out its National Cancer Control Plan in 2016. The plan, scheduled for initial roll out for 2016 to 2020 period, was the result of hard work from several individuals and organizations.
Ethiopia, like many Sub-Saharan African countries, is experiencing a significant burden of cancer. An increasing number of Ethiopians are afflicted with cancer. Accurate estimates of national prevalence and incidence data are hard to come by as there are no current systems to systematically document, aggregate, and report cancer related data.
In this series, we call “Pioneers in Cancer Care”, we will feature clinicians, leaders, researchers, and members of the civic society who have dedicate their professional life to improve cancer care in Ethiopia. The first issue will be coming soon, so please stay tuned!
