Burden of Cancer in Ethiopia

Ethiopia, like many Sub-Saharan African countries, is experiencing a significant burden of cancer. An increasing number of Ethiopians are afflicted with cancer. Accurate estimates of national prevalence and incidence data are hard to come by as there are no current systems to systematically document, aggregate, and report cancer related data. The closets we have comes from the Addis Ababa Cancer Registry, which began operations in September 2011. The IARC, using data from AACR, and other countries data, makes national estimates for the whole country. This is what is reported in a global cancer data repository called, GloboCan, hosted at the WHO/IARC. Using these data, we show below the incidence and mortality related to cancer in Ethiopia.
